Q. I'm worried my mom isn't safe at home alone anymore. How do I know when it's time for her to move into a long-term care facility?
If a senior is unable to maintain a private independent residence and needs extra help with day to day living Sheltered Care may be an option.
This is a very personal decision, but there are many indicators that may help you determine what is the right time. Typically, this is when a senior is no longer able to independently manage meal preparation, medication administration, laundry, and/or personal hygiene or is suffering from the effects of social isolation, loneliness and/or depression.
Sheltered care can provide an environment they thrive in. It is perfect for seniors who need assistance with day to day tasks but have not reached a level where skilled care is needed.
Q. What exactly is Sheltered Care?
Sheltered Care is an option for seniors who are no longer safe or able to live at home but are not in need of skilled nursing services.
Sheltered Care provides personal assistance, supervision, and structured social/activity programming. Personal care and attention are available 24 hours a day whenever the resident needs it.
Sheltered Care services include assistance with meals, medications, bathing, laundry, socialization, and other daily needs the resident might have.
Q. I’m really interested in moving in. But, I'm afraid I won't know anyone. I don't want to sit by myself all the time?
At Greenfield, we have a volunteer, resident-based welcoming committee, who offer friendship and guidance for all those who are new to life in a senior community setting. Our Welcoming Committee members as well as staff members will meet and greet you when you arrive and make sure you know where to go within the campus.
Friendships and connections are quickly formed as one attends various activities of interest. We have a wide variety of activities to participate in if you choose to attend. Our friendly staff members always make you feel welcome and invite you to attend our activities, which are person-centered and engaging, thus encompassing the person's well-being from physical, social, cognitive, and spiritual events.
All activities are based upon the resident's interests and offered seven-days-a-week.
Q. My mom recently passed away. My dad thinks it is time for him to make a change. But, he won't commit to it. He's afraid he'll be bored and doesn't want to live by someone else's schedule?
Greenfield offers a wide variety of activities that are based upon the resident's interest assessment. This person-centered assessment allows the activity director to plan engaging activities, thus offering the individual a plethora of opportunities to enhance one's physical, cognitive, social and spiritual well-being, while living at Greenfield.
We offer a variety of times, as well as locations throughout the campus for the individual to engage in activities of interest, if he or she chooses. The person has the opportunity to participate in as many or as few of activities seven-days-a-week.
